I am originally from Baltimore, Maryland, but I now reside in Parrish, Florida. My journey as an artist began at the age of 6, when I captured perspective and depth in my rendition of the Apollo 11 splashdown. My passion for art flourished through high school; however, I decided to pause my art studies to pursue a career as a computer scientist with the Department of Defense.
While I always found moments for an art class, sketchbook illustration, or the occasional painting, my artistic aspirations took a backseat for several decades. After completing a 42-year career supporting the intelligence community, I rekindled my passion for art in 2020, marking the start of an exciting new chapter.
Meet Jerry Troutman, Artist
In today's world, we effortlessly capture moments with our phones, sharing them instantly on social media, where friends and family casually swipe through. My paintings, however, offer a different experience. They are created to draw you in, urging you to pause and truly absorb the beauty and complexity of our world. Through hyper realistic details, I capture both the extraordinary and the everyday in a way that photographs often cannot.
I find immense joy in painting landscapes, ranging from the serene woods of the Northeast to the sunlit coasts of Florida. What fascinates me most about painting nature is the challenge it presents - the opportunity to truly appreciate and connect with the beauty of each subject.
My aim is to capture the distinctive light, vibrant colors, and unique atmosphere of each scene, alongside my own emotional response to it. Through my work, I hope to invite viewers into a deeper appreciation of the natural world and, perhaps, inspire them to see it from a fresh perspective.
The greatest compliment I receive is when someone says, "I thought that was a photograph," as they lean closer to inspect the intricate brushwork. It's a simple yet profound acknowledgment - a celebration of craftsmanship and a painting well done.
